Harness your subconscious mind to launch thought-free shots

Thanks to Golf.com, here is a word for word reprint from my favorite instructor, Dr. T.J. Tomasi, which has help improve my game with more than any other swing thought.

There are all kinds of things to think about during a swing. That can be a benefit, or a detractor. It’s up to you to decide which.

Ben Hogan once said, “The downswing is no place to give yourself a lesson.” Coming from the game’s ultimate perfectionist, the sentiment speaks volumes about the perils of overthinking your motion.

SLOW PLAY – SNAILS PACE COMMENTARY

The August 08th issue of Global Golf Post – The August 08 issue of Global Golf Post (see link below) has published the latest in a series of golf related stories which expound the problems with slow play. It appears that the methods used at the local club level are outside the understanding of the various professional organizations and the players who continue to commit these problems. Therefore, I suggest that the answer is in the documentation that is given to the players are the tee. Attached to the pin sheets should be a simple listing of times from tee time to finish of the hole.
There is No Sweetness in a Snail’s Pace

A player would then know that from the first tee when he must complete the hole. The time is consistent for every player and builds an allowable buffer should the player have problems. If the player is fortunate to enough to make better than par on the hole the time will build and allow for extra time on the next hole should trouble be incurred. This would hold the time of play at a consistent standard and every one would know the format for completion.

Most marshal’s around the country at every golf course handles this problem with ease and professionalism within the framework of daily play. There will always be problems with players who push the envelope and play much faster than time the framework but being in contact with the group in front of you is never a problem and we can avoid the creating idiots which created last week’s U-Tube video.

2016 Most Wanted: Blades vs. Mallets

MyGolfSpy had done another good job updating the 2015 testing they did on putters. The integration of information for evaluation by every golfer has a good layout highlighted. Great data source. Below are the links to the best of both worlds of putting.

It should be noted that there are some great names are missing from the both lists. Therefore, Player must do some evaluation of the their individual putting style in addition to testing as many of those putters shown on the two lists before purchasing.

I have recently received one of those putter which are not listed in this report. EVNROLL, a company which follows the Rife plan, appear to have found a great model. The highlight to the line is a slightly heavier head and the incorporation of a purer roll technology. The battle at the top now have a greater number of models from various manufacturers for the consumers.

SIMPLIFICATION OF THE RULES

It was recently published in most of the golf media that the USGA and R&A are working on a simplification of the rules. I know that everyone has a opinion and would like to share my comments I sent along. I would hope that everyone who reads this would add their comments and opinions.

The following letter is what I sent along to the committee members:

LAUNCH MONITOR vs TRAINING AID – SC200 SWING CADDIE 2

Just received my new SC200 Swing Caddie 2 launch monitor and am working on seeing just how well it correlates with my club information from the past. This appears to be a very good device with some very neat functions. Though this does not have the massive number of functions necessary for club fitting purposes it does provide the every day player the expert advise necessary to improve the game. MySpyGolf.com did the first review of the SC100 version with mixed results, but below you will see Hacker’s Paradise’s review which points out the benefit of upgrade in the following link:

Swing Caddie SC200 Personal Launch

The devices is available from many locations (estimated at $349.99) but the best thing that everyone can understand is that it is much better for the player improvement as a training aide as opposed the launch monitor (i.e. Trackman, Flightscope, etc.) which is used by most of industry professionals for club fitting and equipment tweaking.

2016 US OPEN COMMENTS

Over the past weekend we saw the finish of the 2016 version of the US Open put on by the USGA and one of the outstanding clubs, Oakmont CC. This was another example of how the elite players of the world are tested under extreme conditions. Congratulations to Dustin Johnson for winning the tournament as well as all the player who made the first tee on Thursday (whether or not they made Sunday) and gave us a great show.

However, I would like to comment on the fiasco on Sunday which the USGA cause all by themselves. Read more »

USGA DISTANCE STUDY

Thanks to the USGA, attached below is a link to one of the most comprehensive studies on ‘off-the-tee’ distance studies I have seen in years. You will find the various parts and pieces of this report came from most of the tournament and tour websites. However, to find all this information in a single place is outstanding.

USGA DISTANCE STUDY

After reading the study you will see that technology has increased distance with about the same degree of advancement we have seen on the advancements in training and concentration placed on these facets of our game since the late 1990’s.
